Stencils
My stencil designs began with images that I created that could be used in my own art and nature journals, and for when I taught Nature Journaling workshops. They evolved to symbol designs and even larger images and now to my Wildland Creatures, forest floors, Berber compasses, Earth Layers, and the collection keeps growing.
I love designing for StencilGirl Products.
It is a family-run business with wonderful offerings for mixed media artists!
My stencil designs are symbolic and inspired by nature. They add a beautiful touch to paintings, collages, or art journals, and some people even use them on clothing!
Pan pastels, distress inks, permanent inks, and gesso are my favorite tools for stenciling.
New stencil design, earth layers…
Inspired by my time in Australia filming my SIGNATURE online workshop
Earth Layers, my newest stencil design, grew from my experience filming my signature online workshop, Wilderness & Wonder, with Fibre Arts Take Two. We spent 10 days exploring the land and all of its offerings, making art on location and in the studio with the nature available to me. I loved filming with professionals to create a class where you can also explore and connect with the land around you.
After we finished the workshop, I came home and created this amazing, layered stencil that is one of my favorites I have ever made! It shows the trees, land, and rocks that I connected with so deeply. And each layer of the stencil represents one of the three elements of Wilderness & Wonder -- Reconnect, Redefine, Renew.
New Berber Compass Stencils!
Ancient Wisdom Inspires Art
The Berber people's roots extend at least 10,000-20,000 years back in time, connecting to a potent ancient wisdom that lives on today. I learned about the indigenous Berber people in my Moroccan travels in October 2022 and am so thankful for a taste of this rich heritage.
Berber Compasses, which are handed down through generations as talismans and guides, inspired my new stencil designs. The pendants are passed through families to their children for safe travels on their journeys. It is said by the Tuareg tribe in the Sahara that these necklaces help them navigate the desert. I cannot put into words how much these traditions inspire me, so I created Berber Compass stencils to share.
I found my own Berber Compass at a desert market in Morocco, and it is pictured below with a few of the 9 Berber Compass stencil designs!
